The Secure a Pet is a cell based GPS tracking system whose collar weighs less than 4 ounces and accommodates pets 10 pounds and up. The device is water resistant, withstanding damp weather including rain, however, it should not be fully submerged in water. The rechargeable battery requires virtually no attention for up to one month under normal conditions, while the second battery can be constantly charged and ready to use. You will receive an e-mail notification when the battery reaches 25% of its capacity. You can locate your pet via your cell phone, computer, or the Secure a Pet customer support center. The mapped location is designed to be accurate within less than 100 feet. The coverage map encompasses approximately 93% of the US population area, so you can use it basically any where in the US. When you instruct the system to search for your pet, a flashing safety light on the Secure a Pet collar will be activated so your pet can be seen at a distance at night. One of the major drawbacks of Secure a Pet is that it is an on demand system. You activate the search when you notice your dog is missing. It does not alert you to your dog leaving a safety zone like Zoombak does.
There is an app available for iPhones and Androids that allows you to incorporate pet information including photos, medication requirements, allergies, health records, and vet info. You will be sent reminders via your phone and / or e-mail when events such as medication, vet appointments, and groomers should take place. The app will provide you the location of the nearest dog parks, vet hospitals, pet stores, pet friendly hotels, etc. This is all in addition to the one button pet search to find your pet equipped with the secure a pet collar.
Secure a Pet requires a yearly monitoring fee which costs approximately $100 a year. The system comes with a 90 day warranty, however, a protection plan is available at an additional cost.
