Gibi

The Gibi GPS Tracking Device for dogs is one of the newest cellular based GPS devices, entering the market in April of 2014.  Like the other cellular based GPS devices, you can set up safe zones for your dog and be alerted via email or a text when your dog leaves the safe area.  You can then access a Google street or satellite view map via a smart phone, tablet, or computer to locate your dog and get turn by turn instructions to locate it safely.  A unique feature that the Gibi has is that you can also set up a contact list of friends and family members that can also be sent a text or email when your dog strays out of the safe zone.  Although an app is currently not available for the device, you can set up safe areas and track your dog via a mobile and computer friendly web site.  It works on both Androids and iPhones.

The Gibi attaches securely to your dog’s existing collar.  It is sturdy and waterproof, allowing your dog to swim while wearing it.  The device runs on a rechargeable Lithium-Polymer battery.  When the battery is low and needs charging, you have the option of being alerted via an email or text.  It takes about 2 hours to fully charge when completely depleted.  The battery will last 4-5 days when set to locate your pet every 15 minutes, which is the default.  A unique feature of the Gibi is that you can change the frequency of locating your pet.  The shorter the interval, the shorter the battery life.  The longer the interval, the longer the battery life.  If desired, you have the option of the device continuously locate your pet by setting the frequency to zero.  That means you will be alerted immediately when your dog leaves the safe zone as opposed to a delayed alert of 15 minutes, or whatever you have the locate frequency set to.  You have the ability to see the location of your pet at any time, even if it is the safe zone.  You can also see it’s location history.

There is a monthly monitoring device for the Gibi, although the first 3 months of service are free.  After that, you can pay by the month or sign up for a 1,2,3,4, or 5 year plan.  The longer the plan, the cheaper the monthly rate.  For a second pet, the monthly service will be discounted by 10%.   Gibi warrants the included hardware product and accessories against defects in materials and workmanship for 90 days from the date of original retail purchase.   Gibi is designed to work internationally, but is initially only operating in the United States.  This site will be updated it starts operating internationally.

Hi, thank you for including Gibi in your review! Would you mind updating the article. The article states that “Although an app is currently not available for the device, you can set up safe areas and track your dog via a mobile and computer friendly web site.” Gibi does have a mobile app that works on all versions of iOS and Android phones.

GIbi also works indoors, except the accuracy isn’t the same as outdoors. Gibi’s accuracy is 10 feet outdoors, where pets go missing. Indoor accuracy varies depending on the building construction and size. That is probably related to the CON listed as “subject to false notifications,” which is managed by adjusting your safe zone size.

We also launched our second generation Gibi trackers during the summer of 2017. These trackers provide longer battery life and improved accuracy in wooded and urban environments.

We would greatly appreciate if you would modify your article.

    Thank you!
